To start: I never thought John/Sherlock would become canon. No, really. I don’t think many people do. Lots of people want it to, but I think it’s generally accepted as a relative impossibility, no matter how much we want it.
What I am here to talk about it why that impossibility is so harmful, what that says about media today, and, of course, why I am disappointed in fucking everybody.
Also: this post contains minor spoilers and frank discussion of the appearance of a certain character, so if you don’t know what I’m talking about, turn back now before you regret it.
This is exactly what my face has been doing as I’ve looked at the #setlock tag!
I think we all need to calm down. Moffat and Gatiss always said this was a reworking of ACD canon for the modern day NOT a re-imagining of it.
I ship Johnlock with all my heart but I never expected to see it on screen and that won’t lessen my enjoyment of the series one little bit. Nor will it stop me writing Johnlock fanfic, or enjoying Johnlock fan art or reading way more into the looks they give each other than is probably there.
We don’t need to tear the fandom apart over this. We need to accept that everyone will feel differently and think before we type.
Because hate, abuse and bullying are wrong no matter how worked up about something you are.
